History
Over 50 years ago, the Barse family embarked on a journey that would leave an enduring mark on the commune of Pujols, driven by a shared vision to perpetuate the rich tradition of wine production at Château Fourreau.
Today, the reins of Château Fourreau are firmly held by the hands of the third and fourth generations of the Barse family.
It remains dedicated to crafting wines that not only showcase the unique characteristics of the Bordeaux terroir, but also encapsulate the spirit of familial continuity and the commitment to producing exceptional wines.
Viticulture
The vineyard of Château Fourreau is located on a clay-limestone and flint hillside.
The estate practices an eco-responsible viticulture. The château’s team make their wines under the prestigious HEV certification (High Environmental Value).
Vinification
For making this Château Fourreau 2018, the winemaker used 3 grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc et Cabernet Sauvignon.
Following the meticulous process of sorting and destemming, the harvest undergoes a brief period of cold maceration in state-of-the-art thermo-regulating stainless steel vats, lasting for a few days.
Then, a fermentation process spanning 15 to 20 days takes place. The initiation of malolactic fermentation contributes to the wine’s softening effect.
Following the winter season, the wine is meticulously transferred into 100% French oak barrels, where it matures and ages gracefully for an extended period of 12 months.
Tasting
This Château Fourreau 2018 has a concentrated color with garnet-brown reflections. Nose marked by jammy fruits and fine notes of perfectly integrated oak. Fresh and well-balanced, the palate reveals rich fruit flavors and multiple layers. Ripe black fruit notes unfold gracefully, and showcase the wine’s maturity and complexity.
