History

The history of Brown goes back almost one thousand years, with traces of vines here as early as the 12th century.

Château Brown owes its name to a rich Scottish wine trader, John-Lewis Brown, who settled in Bordeaux shortly after the Revolution, in 1795. He built Château Brown’s iconic chartreuse house and he was determined to transform his Léognan estate into somewhere as beautiful as it was productive.

Château Brown is owned today by the Mau et Dirkzwager families.

During the past two decades, it has seen the overall quality of its wines soar since then the wines of Château Brown have earned the recognition of wine critics in France and around the world.

Viticulture

Château Brown is located in the Northern Graves – the oldest winegrowing terroir in Bordeaux, dating back 2,000 years.

The vineyards enjoy a micro-climate that is ideal for the grape ripening process and therefore the quality of the wine. The terroir is made of fine gravel mixed in with alios, a ferruginous and sandy soil.

Château Brown covers some 60 hectares, with an average age of the vineyard of 15 years.

The estate practices an eco-responsible viticulture. In January 2018, the domain was granted the prestigious HEV 3 certification (High Environmental Value).

Vinification

For making this Château Brown 2021, the winemaker used a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%),  Merlot (45%), and 2% Petit Verdot.

The grapes are harvested by hand, using small trays, at optimal ripeness. Rigorous sorting in the winery using optical sorting. They are then carefully vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.

Malolactic fermentation is carried out in vats. The wine is then carefully aged for 12 to 15 months in high-quality French oak barrels.

Annual wine production: 60 to 80,000 bottles.

Tasting

Château Brown 2021 reveals both great finesse and amazing intensity.

A lovely, deep, intense colour. On the nose, notes of ripe black cherries. The attack is soft, fruity and fleshy. The palate is ample, rich and full-bodied, characterised by the density of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannins are present and silky. A powerful, long finish.

This vintage is full of sunshine and ripe fruit. The wine will improve even more over time. The ageing potential is over 15 years.

We kindly recommend you to serve this Château Brown 2021 at 18-19°C (this temperature allows this exceptional wine to fully express its range of aromas and flavors).

Perfect with: grilled, roasted, or stewed juicy meats.
