History

Château Lafite Rothschild is a renowned and historic wine estate located in the Pauillac region of the Bordeaux wine-producing region in France.

It is one of the five First Growth estates according to the famous Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, a classification that ranks Bordeaux wines based on their reputation and quality.

The estate has a long and rich history dating back to the 17th century. It has changed hands several times over the centuries but has consistently produced some of the world’s most sought-after and expensive wines.

Château Lafite Rothschild wines are highly prestigious and are often considered among the finest and most collectible wines in the world.

Viticulture

The vineyards of Château Lafite Rothschild cover approximately 112 hectares, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grape varieties.

The terroir of the estate is known for its deep gravel soils, which contribute to the unique characteristics of the wines.

Vinification

The winemaking at Château Lafite Rothschild is characterized by a commitment to traditional methods and a focus on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the estate.

The wines are often described as elegant, refined, and capable of aging for 50 years or more!

Tasting

Deep and intense purple colour. Complex nose marked by aromas of red and black fruits, elevated by fine spicy notes. Ample and dense on the palate with an extremely balanced, harmonious and sapid finish. This is a dense, tight, very elegant Lafite, with very present tannins, good length, it still needs to firm up, but the depth is there with an admirable uprightness.

This is not a wine to drink on the young side, as usually far too tannic and reserved in its youth.
Young vintages can be decanted for an average of 3-6 hours. This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume.

Serving temperatures can be a matter of personal preference. Nonetheless, we kindly recommend you to serve it at around 16-18°C. This temperature range allows this fine wine to express its full range of aromas and flavors.
